In its second term, the welfare of farmers continues to be the focal area for the Yogi Adityanath government.
The government has so far disbursed approximately Rs 585 crore from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) to farmers who suffered crop loss due to unseasonal rain that lashed the state during the financial year 2021-22.
Additional Chief Secretary (Rural Development and Panchayati Raj) Manoj Kumar Singh said, “Following assessment, the government has pegged the crop losses in the state at around Rs 585.95 crore. Working with full force for the interest of around 16.26 lakh farmers, the state government has released compensation to the respective district collectors who will distribute it among farmers through DBT (direct benefit transfer).”
The farmers' crops were badly damaged due to unseasonal rains and heavy floods in September and early October last year and later in January this year. The compensation amount will be directly transferred to the bank accounts (DBT) of farmers from the district treasury. In the wake of the natural calamities, the government is providing financial assistance from the State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF).
Standing firmly with the farmers suffering crop loss due to floods, the chief minister has also instructed officials to give appropriate and immediate compensation to the farmers.
For the crop loss due to fires caused by lightning every year, the chief minister has directed officials concerned to take necessary safety measures.
“Apart from the farmers covered by the crop insurance scheme, if any farmer's crop burns due to electrical fires, compensation must be provided to them as per the rules of the Mandi Samiti,” he said.
