These farms contributed to the creation of 5,000 direct jobs and 10,000 indirect jobs. Morocco has established 200 aquaculture farms across the country in 2024, aiming for an annual production of over 124,000 tons, according to the State Secretariat for Maritime Fisheries. Aquaculture farms are facilities dedicated to the cultivation of aquatic organisms, such as fish, shellfish, and other marine life.

In a statement issued during its 24th board meeting, the National Agency for the Development of Aquaculture (ANDA) announced that a total of 322 agreements for the creation and operation of aquaculture farms were published in the Official Bulletin in 2024. Out of these, 200 farms have already been set up, creating 5,000 direct jobs and 10,000 indirect jobs.

ANDA also noted the launch of two international funding programs worth a total of MAD 300 million. With funding of MAD 100 million and MAD 200 million respectively, the programs aim to support aquaculture projects and further develop the sector.

The agency said it has placed significant emphasis on helping young entrepreneurs succeed in aquaculture projects. This year, 112 social and solidarity-based projects received financial support amounting to MAD 164 million.

ANDA outlined a comprehensive action plan for 2025, consisting of 22 key projects to accelerate the sector’s development. These include strengthening aquaculture hubs in key regions and introducing new regulations and digitalizing investment processes. In addition, the agency plans to launch calls for investment to attract new stakeholders, as well as provide technical and financial assistance for project owners, including access to productive structures, equipment, and expert advice.

The board approved the 2025 action plan and budget.
