Not more that 360,000 livestock have been vaccinated by the The Kaduna State Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) in a statewide campaign aimed at preventing spread of anthrax.

Dr. Shittu Hashim, State Project Coordinator (SPC) for L-PRES made this known on Thursday at the end of its vaccination campaign in Kaduna.

Hashim said that the Kaduna L-PRES team had prioritised the vaccination as part of its broader mandate to enhance livestock health and productivity.

He explained that the vaccination campaign was part of ongoing efforts to promote sustainable livestock management, strengthen veterinary services while fostering peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders.

He described anthrax as a highly contagious bacterial disease that affects both animals and humans, and poses a serious threat to livestock farmers and public health.

He lauded the collaboration between the national office, veterinary services and it’s stakeholders which had contributed to the campaign’s success.

“This achievement reflects our commitment to protecting livestock farmers’ livelihoods and addressing public health risks. We appreciate the support from the national L-PRES office, which made this vital intervention possible,” Hashim stated.

The project coordinator revealed that the vaccination exercise was made possible through the support of the national L-PRES office, which provided 450,000 doses of the vaccine.

Meanwhile, Dr. Zakariya Pakachi, Director, Veterinary and Livestock Services, state Ministry of Agriculture, has commended the L-PRES for the successful intervention.

Pakachi said the intervention reinforced its role in improving livestock productivity and resilience across the state.

Some of the beneficiaries of the exercise expressed their appreciation, noting that the vaccination would help reduce livestock losses and financial risks.

According to Abel Jonah, a livestock farmer from Sanga LGA, we now have peace of mind knowing our animals are protected. This is a significant step forward for us.
