GoodLife Agriculture secures final city loan tranche for $190 million Nebraska land-based salmon farm.

GoodLife Agriculture has secured the final installment of a $1 million municipal growth-fund loan, clearing a local financing milestone for its planned $190 million land-based Atlantic salmon facility in Nebraska City.

The recirculating aquaculture system plant is designed for about 3,000 metric tonnes of annual processed output and is expected to create 40 to 60 jobs at full run rate, according to company and city statements. GoodLife projects the development will expand the local tax base by roughly 22 percent.

The LB840 support is structured as a partially forgivable loan subject to contingencies. The company has not disclosed a commissioning date.

The project forms part of a wave of US land-based salmon developments aimed at supplying regional demand from near-market sites. Developers cite shorter distribution routes and supply reliability as key advantages, while acknowledging that timelines depend on permitting, capital availability and stable biology at commercial scale.

The developer behind the project is GoodLife Agriculture, whose founders Kiel and Mimi VanderVeen previously operated a smaller aquaponics venture and began scaling plans toward a 600,000-sq-ft Nebraska City facility. The company’s current leadership roster includes CEO Mark Warrell, alongside construction and project management hires.
