In Florida, the avocado sector has been battling Laurel Wilt for over ten years, witnessing the loss of more than 140,000 trees and incurring financial damages estimated at $46 million. Combat strategies against this fungal invasion are limited, primarily involving fungicidal applications and selective pruning of affected foliage. Detection of the fungus poses a challenge, as visual signs are often minimal. However, the distinct odor emitted by infected trees has enabled the use of dogs to identify and manage the spread of this disease effectively.
