Starting from 2026, Uzbekistan will introduce a voluntary crop insurance system. It is planned that half of the insurance expenses will be covered by the state budget.
On November 17, Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed a presentation on boosting agricultural productivity. It is envisioned that experienced farmers, with yields exceeding 60 quintals, will assist those with yields below 30 quintals.
Should they manage to increase the yields under their guidance to 50 quintals, such mentors will receive financial incentives as rewards. The agronomist training system will also be reformed.
A new two-year "dual" education system is set to be introduced, allowing students to undergo practical training at advanced farming enterprises while receiving scholarships. Specialist instructors will also receive incentive payments. The country has two unique scientific institutes: the Center for Genomics and Bioinformatics and the Cotton Research Institute.
However, their potential is not being fully utilized. To accelerate scientists’ work, a phytotron and a reproduction greenhouse will be constructed.
This will reduce the time required to develop new varieties by 2.5 times and decrease dependence on imported seeds. To simplify financial support for agriculture, a proposal has been made to establish an agency specializing in payments within the agro-industrial sector.
This agency will integrate 75 types of subsidy mechanisms into a unified platform.
