Hungary - Apple production falling to just about 400 thousand tons

This year's apple production is falling in Hungary, partly due to frost damage and partly to the lack of rainfall in each region. The prospect is to reach about 400,000 tons, which is less than half of the 2018 harvest and about 25 percent less than the average yield, which stands at around 600,000 tons, said the Vice President of the Hungarian Fruit and Vegetable Interprofessional Organization and Product Council (FruitVeB). In mid-August, the production volume had been expected to reach around 450,000 tons, but as the harvest develops, it is clear that the final picture will be even more disappointing. Thus, it is very likely that by mid-November, the Hungarian apple production will remain below 400,000 tons, said Ferenc Apáti. Source - https://www.freshplaza.com
