There is alarm in the grape-producing region of Piura as temperatures are expected to drop, which could affect the crops that are currently in their curdling and growth processes. Abner Acuña Alberca, the director of Statistics of the Regional Directorate of Agriculture (DRA), has said that, despite everything, producers are optimistic because the decrease in temperature won't impact the plots that are already being harvested. Acuña Alberca also noted that the production areas have had significant growth in the region, where the Red Globe variety is main variety grown, followed by the Crimson Seedless and Sugraone varieties. The region of Piura region has 8,300 hectares devoted to grape cultivation. 20 agribusiness companies concentrate the largest cultivation area due to the high investment cost needed to grow grapes per hectare, which stands at 30 to 35 thousand dollars.
