Yesterday was the deadline for many farmers to finish planting certain crops, if they wanted full crop insurance.
"It's a certain percentage per day after the planting date," said San Patricio County Extension Agriculture Agent Bobby McCool. "It doesn't take long to eat into your safety net."
McCool says this much rain is bad for not only those that are trying to plant crops, but also for those that have already planted.
"We don't know if this crop is going to make it or not," said South Texas Farmer Bobby Nedbalek. "If we have to replant, we're running out of time for that to be reasonable too."
Congressman Blake Farenthold is proposing a bill that would extend the planting deadline date to the 26th of this month.
