"The 5.8 lakh farmers in the district, who had participated in the crop insurance at Re 1 scheme launched by state govt and are awaiting the settlement of their claim, are likely to get a sum of Rs 853 crore by mid-July," assured district guardian minister Dada Bhuse.

Bhuse was in Nashik to conduct the district planning committee meeting. During the meeting, the members of the committee raised the issue of farmers' dues that an insurance company, which was in consultation with the state govt, was yet to settle.

The farmers of Nashik district had suffered due to the lack of rains in the kharif season. In Sept, the Insurance company had paid Rs 79 crore to farmers from select areas of the district where there were no rains for 21 days consecutively, triggering the mid-term adversary factor. District Jalaj Sharma later held a meeting with the company and followed up on the matter. The insurance company was then asked to settle the claims of the farmers after all the formalities were finished.

"After experiments carried out by the agriculture department, a final report was sent to state and central govt about the losses incurred by the farmers because of the adversary of the monsoon. A payment of Rs 853 crore has to be made to the farmers by the insurance company but the company had challenged the payment with the state govt, which has been overruled," said Bhuse.

The minister said that a meeting was to be held in Mumbai in a week's time and the payment is likely to be released soon. The guardian minister also refuted any chances of water cuts in Nashik and suggested to wait for a fortnight before any decision is taken.
