India - Preliminary crop loss estimate stands at Rs 3.68 crore

Tirupati and Chittoor, the two districts which bore the brunt of Cyclone Mandous in Andhra Pradesh are staring at a crop loss worth Rs 3.68 crore on 900 hectares of land, authorities said.

The farmers who cultivated paddy suffered severe losses in Airala Mandal and around 626 ponds are up to the brim with rain water, Tv9 Telugu reported. District Collector Hari Narayan has warned officials to be alert for another 48 hours of rain.

As the inflow to Nimmanapally Bahuda project increased, the officials lifted 3 gates and released the water downstream.

Accommodation arrangements have been made for 416 people in 16 rehabilitation centres in Chittoor district. In 17 mandals of Tirupati district, preliminary estimates of losses are at Rs 55 crore. A full report on damaged roads, collapsed houses, increased crop loss can be expected in a week.  

Parts of Andhra Pradesh continued to receive rain as low pressure in Arabian sea is moving west causing rain in Anantapur, Sathya Sai, Annamayya, Chittoor on Tuesday.

Sai Praneeth Burah, a private weather blogger tweeted, ''Entire Uttarandhra including Visakhapatnam will not see rains this whole week and there can be some rainfall at few places in Ubhaya Godavari, Krishna, Bapatla, Prakasam, Nellore Today evening as dry air meets the moist easterlies. Nothing much on cards.''
