UF/IFAS has released a preliminary report on the losses farmers suffered from Hurricane Debby. Their economists say millions of dollars in crop damage were reported.
The preliminary report states that Debby damaged more than two million acres of agricultural land and caused an estimated value between 94 and 263 million dollars in production losses. Farmers in north central Florida are still rebuilding and recovering.
“Most of the damage was trees down. We had a lot of fences damaged... we had quite a bit of fence work to do, and still doing it, and we had a lot of debris to clean up,” says Jason Holifield, owner of Holifield Farms.
Despite the damages, small town communities and neighbors are helping each other recover and move forward.
