USA - USDA forecasts smaller almond crop

The2023 California Almond Subjective Forecastpublished Friday by the U. S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (USDA-NASS) estimates that the crop harvested in 2023 will come in at 2.50 billion pounds, 3 percent below last year’s 2.57 billion pounds.

Spain - Northeast faced with crippling drought

A massive drought in Catalonia is forcing this northeast region of Spain to turn to water rationing, seawater desalination and recycling effluent from sewage treatment plants. Last year reservoirs dropped to 55% capacity in the region, but the Sau reservoir, normally the main source of water for the regional capital, Barcelona, is currently at 8%.
